Technical environment - material igumid

The material from which igus energy chains are made must be able to withstand a great deal: pressure and tensile strain, abrasion, high and low temperatures, and outdoor environments. They must also be tough and have a good modulus of elasticity. igus's igumid G compound satisfies these requirements, some of which are conflicting. Numerous application examples, from refrigerator blocks to steel mills, prove this. In very specific cases, we also offer modifications and other igus compounds as a special solution.

Flammability of igumid NB

All igus easy e-chain and series 14 and F17 e-chains are made from the flame-retardant igumid NB material. These e-chains® have the following flame-retardant classifications:
 
  • UL94 classification - V2
  • VDE 0304 part 3/5.70 classification- IIb
  • DIN 4102 flammability of materials - B2

igumid NB V0 flammability

The igumid NB V0 special material variant with self-extinguishing properties has been certified according to UL94-V0. The material has also been approved for use in aircraft interiors according to FAR 25.853 and for use in the rail industry according to EN 45545 HL3 R22/R23

Flammability of igumid G

The flame-retardant characteristics of igumid G can be described using various classifications. Most igus e-chains, such as the popular E4.1 and E2/000 e-chain systems, are manufactured from igumid G.
 
  • Test procedure VDE 0304 parts 3/5.70
  • Tested according to UL94 "Standard for Safety of Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances Testing" – Classification: 94 HB for 3.2 and 1.6 mm body thicknesses
  • Tested according to DIN 4102 Fire behaviour of building materials and building components – Classification: materials class B2
  • For further requirements, please consult igus® for special solutions, such as materials with self-extinguishing properties (UL94-V2 or UL94-V0).
